| At approximately 11:00 a.m. today, the Calvert control center received multiple calls reporting a head-on collision on the Benedict Bridge along Route 231. Initial reports indicated that one person was unconscious and one vehicle was on fire.
The Benedict Bridge is a very narrow structure, with no shoulders and limited space for vehicles under normal conditions. During emergency responses, it is critical for responding units to position themselves carefully to avoid blocking access for larger rescue vehicles.
Command10, staffed by CHF10 and PMIC Rob Schapiro, responded within seconds of dispatch and arrived just after Maryland State Police units. Command10 parked before reaching the crash site, leaving space for Squad 2 to reach the vehicles, in case a fire or entrapment was present.
The crew from Command10 quickly assessed two patients, one classified as priority three and the other as priority two. Due to the location of the incident, it was decided to upgrade Charles ambulance 1005 and utilize the crew from Command10. Medics from EMS20 and PA204 assisted with patient packaging and provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting the patients to a local trauma center. |
