On Friday, January 9, 2026, CALS units participated in a funeral procession to honor the lifelong dedication of a volunteer EMT from St. Mary’s County. Karen Szabo, a member of the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad, passed away suddenly due to illness on December 31, 2025. Karen had served the community for many years as a committed member of LPVRS.
LPVRS is recognized as a leading volunteer EMS provider in the Southern Maryland region, operating six ambulances from two stations. To show support for the agency, CALS sent four medic units to St. Mary’s County for the funeral procession while ensuring that three medic units remained in service in Calvert County. Members Tim Farr (M105), Meagan Davis (M103), Allison Dickson (Car10), and Steven Bailey (M102) represented CALS in the procession.
