| On Saturday, May 29, 2026, Past Assistant Chief S. McKeever and PMIC/Secretary A. Freeman attended the funeral service of Richard "Batman" Battenfield of Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, who passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Both members had the honor of participating in the procession and escort, accompanying Richard to his final resting place.
Rich proudly served his community through EMS as a volunteer EMT for more than 25 years. He began his journey with Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad before calling Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad home, where he remained active throughout his career and was a Life Member. Rich went on to serve as a member of St. Mary's ALS. Throughout his years of service, Rich contributed to cadet programs, took on various board member roles, and dedicated himself to mentoring the next generation of EMS professionals — earning several well-deserved accolades along the way.
In recognition of his years of dedicated service and lasting impact on the EMS community, Rich was posthumously honored with Life Member status by St. Mary's ALS. Rich would come ride with PMIC A. Freeman at CALS to provide an extra set of hands to help with the equipment and to drive the medic unit to the hospital. CALS extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fellow members during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Batman. |
