CALS Medics Assist with a Cardiac Arrest ROSC

At approximately 6:00 p.m. today, the Calvert Control Center received a report of a person who had fallen and was unconscious. Units from Company 7 and Calvert Advanced Life Support quickly responded to the call.

Soon after dispatch, the incident was upgraded to a cardiac arrest. Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office who were nearby arrived in less than three minutes, began CPR, and delivered one shock using their AED.

Shortly after, Company 7 arrived, took over CPR, and delivered another shock with their AED. When Medic 105, led by Paramedic Schapiro, the patient was found to be in V-Fib. Paramedic Schapiro assumed care and delivered a third shock using the LP35 device.

The patient's heart rhythm returned to normal, and the patient began to regain consciousness. With assistance from Company 7 members, EMS20D, and CHF10, the patient was prepared for transport and taken to a landing zone for air transport to a cardiac center.
