Last night Boat 10 crewed by PMIC Schapiro, BLS members Lipper, Markette, participated in the standby for the annual Solomons Island firework show. Due to the nice weather large crowds attended both on land as well as on the Patuxent River. Boat 10 along with several other fire boats from the area were each assigned zones of coverage in the river for the firework festivities. Just before the fireworks began Calvert Communications received a mutual aid call from St-Mary's for a boat sinking in the area of Clarks Landing. Boat 10 and Boat 7 both responded as the call was right next to their coverage area and were on scene within minutes and before any ground units arrived on the shoreline. Upon arrival of our rescue boats all people were out of the water and friends were towing the boat back to shore. Boat 7 confirmed no injuries and both boats returned to the standby. CALS also provided additional chase cars in the Solomons/Lusby areas to cover for increased call volume during this time. |
