Earlier today CALS along with members from the Solomons VFD were able to assist the US Coast Guard with a unique mission. At approx 0930 hrs today an LNG freighter docked at Cove Point LNG had a mariner suffer from a medical emergency. The ships crew contacted the US Coast Guard via Channel 16 to report the emergency. The Coast Guard checked with local air assets and with poor weather in the area at the time the mission was given to the US Navy SAR team out of Patuxent Naval Air Station. Crews from CALS M103 (Dr. T. Jodrie, PM Intern T. Doonan) arrived on the ship roughly the same time as the Navy Corpsman from Navy SAR aircraft. The patient was rapidly assessed and was determined to suffering from an isolated medical emergency that could be handled at a local hospital. The plan was designed to hoist the patient and the providers from the pier up to the aircraft and a short flight over to the local hospital. The patient and the CALS members were safely hoisted into the aircraft and the patient was transported without incident to the hospital.
