On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11:35, CALS was alerted for a high-angle rescue for a patient who had fallen approximately 50’ down a cliff and in the water. Units arrived on location to find a conscious, but injured, elderly woman who had been in the water over an hour before her neighbor heard her screaming and called 911. Volunteer Paramedic Robert Schapiro and a volunteer firefighter from Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department climbed down the cliff to assess the patient. They rendered immediate BLS care while the high-angle rescue team and St. Leonard’s zodiac boat simultaneously made access. Rescuers fully immobilized the pt. and secured her in a stokes basket. Volunteer Paramedic Schapiro and the high-angle rescue team then hoisted her up the cliff. Rescuers moved the patient to Ambulance 238. Trooper 2 then flew the patient to a nearby trauma center.
