Early this morning in the Ranch Club a mother collapsed in front of her family in full arrest. Family members immediately began CPR and called 911. Calvert County Sheriffs Office deputies and EMS Captain 7 (PMIC S.Myers) were in the area and were on scene within minutes. Chief 10 arrived POV a few moments after that and brought equipment into the home. Patient was found to be in V-Fib arrest and was shocked. Hi-performance CPR was taken over by the members of Solomon's Rescue Squad and Fire Department while members of the medic unit performed advanced procedures. At the 4 min mark the patient was shocked a second time and returned to a normal rhythm. EMT's checked and quickly confirmed a matching pulse. A 12 lead was performed and confirmed a STEMI and aviation was requested. Chief 10B (S.Sturmer) remained on scene with the ambulance crew and medics to package the patient, while Chief 3 (Medic J.Ford) and E31 responded to the Ranch Club airport for MSP Trooper 7. Southern Maryland hospital was notified that they would be receiving the patient. The patient continued to improve throughout care and was almost able to speak upon being loaded into Trooper 7 for the short flight. This is a great example of the resources and dedicated volunteers that the residents of Calvert County have available to them.
