Congratulations to personnel from Calvert ALS and the Calvert County Sheriff's Office as they become the newest graduates of the Counter Narcotics and Terrorism Operational Medical Support (CONTOMS) program. CALS members Captain Josh Paiva, Lieutenant Brian Flanyak, Kyle Clark and CCSO members Nate Funchion and Steve Esposito join 9 other members of our department in receiving their Emergency Medical Technician-Tactical certification through this program.

The program teaches law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel how to provide emergency medical support to special response teams like the Calvert County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Team. The graduates are taught topics in; medical threat assessment, downed officer rescue, care under fire, special equipment and kits, toxic hazards, and medical support of specific operations during the intense 56 hours week long training that concludes with a large scale training exercise.

Thank you to the US Department of Health and Human Services and the US Park Police for offering such an excellent training course. Your dedication to the safety of the public and other public safety personnel through your volunteer efforts of this program does not go unnoticed.
