 CALS News: CALS responds to 4702 calls in 2009!

Calls that stand outCALS and it's members are proud to boast that our 100% ALL VOLUNTEER membership responded to 4702 calls for service in the year of 2009.

CALS has the highest call volume in Calvert County, responding to over 1500 calls more than the 2nd highest call volume station, Solomons.

With a scratch rate of 0%, CALS is the ONLY 100% Volunteer ALS service left in the state of Maryland.

 CALS News: Busy day involves Serious Auto accident

Calls that stand outOn Monday July 7, 2008 at 1440hrs Engine 62 was heading back to their station after a medical call when they came upon a serious auto accident at Route 4 and Sheckells Road. Chief 6 radioed to Calvert and advised them he had a serious auto accident with entrapment, to go ahead and start the whole rescue box for a serious auto accident.

He then came back and said that he had a total of five patients in which two who need to go by helicopter. Ambulance 69 responded from the hospital along with other units from Huntingtown, North Beach, Dunkirk, and Prince Frederick VFD’s. Chief 6 who had command requested two helicopters and an additional two ambulances after the rescue box was dispatched.

Due to the medic units being committed to other calls, Paramedic Inscoe, responded POV, Chief 10A Paul Lenharr and Paramedic 9 from Anne Arundel County all responded. Once Medic 105 (Paramedic Jim Bonner and EMT-B Pam Smith) cleared the hospital they also responded to the accident to provide care.

Trooper 2 and Trooper 7 both transported their patients to P.G. Trauma Center for further treatment. The other patients were transported to CMH for care, command was terminated at 1527hrs.
