Calvert Advanced Life Support is the sole advanced life support asset providing 100% volunteer emergency medical services to the citizens of Calvert County, Maryland. Calvert County is a small 219 square mile peninsula located 35 miles southeast of the District of Columbia, 25 miles south of Annapolis, and 55 miles south of Baltimore. It lays between the Patuxent River to the west and the Chesapeake Bay to the east. Calvert County is home to over 89,000 residents and has two high risk industrial facilities; the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant operated by Exelon Corporation and the Cove Point Liquid Natural Gas transfer terminal operated by Dominion. To accompany the water recreation and facilities Calvert also has approximately 20 miles of cliff that border the water.

Calvert Advanced Life Support is one of 9 departments providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the community through the tiered response in partnership with seven departments providing basic life support and transport units. The department utilizes five advanced life support chase units and three support vehicles that respond with 14 basic life support units from other departments that carry additional advanced life support gear to respond to 5,000 calls for service a year. The membership consists of approximately 72 advanced level emergency medical services providers and 60 basic life support members.
