At approximately 1500 hrs on Saturday afternoon as severe thunderstorms were rolling in towards Calvert County, Calvert control dispatched a MVC in front of CALS. As units from CALS were coming out of the building to help, the call was upgraded to "reported serious" with one patient trapped. Chief 10C K.Jura, and PMIC B.Contee arrived on scene immediately and began to work with units from Co's 2,4,7 to free the driver from the vehicle. The car had crashed approx 30ft down an embankment into a tree pinning the driver by her legs. As crews from Squad's 2 and 7 worked to free the patient aviation was requested, at first the request was approved but with storms rolling in quickly the request was cancelled and Medics were informed that ground transport to PG trauma was going to required. Crews worked feverously to extricate the patient and after approx 25 mins the patient was freed and quickly moved to a waiting ambulance from Co.4. The patient was transported pri-2 to PG Trauma by ground with PMIC Contee on board.

A Special thanks goes out to our fellow volunteers from the Charles County MICU who were arriving in Calvert County to cover CALS during our awards dinner while this accident occurred. Charles Medic 60 went in service immediately upon entering our county and was placed on several calls throughout the evening.
