Saturday was a strange day for Calvert County, first it was sunny, then it snowed, then the sun came back out. Co.3 had several units across the bridge in St.Marys county for a working house fire, so Prince Frederick E21 was filling in at Co.3. The medic unit was steady but nothing out of the ordinary. At approximately 1430 hrs Solomons, St Leonard and the Medic unit were alerted for the MVC reported serious "one trapped" on Rousby Hall rd. Solomons A38 with PMIC Bowen arrived on scene first and began assessing number of patients and priorities. Chief 10 arrived seconds after A38 and was advised by PMIC Bowen that the patient trapped was a CALS PMIC (off duty). PMIC Bowen had already assessed the other patient and found her to be a stable pri-3 CAT-C. M105 (PMIC Becker) arrived soon there after and transferred care from PMIC Bowen. The CALS member was assessed and found to have a fractured femur. Aviation was requested for a pri-2 CAT-B, Chief 10, and PMIC Bowen began caring for both patients while Co.3,7,2 worked to free the trapped driver. Due to the position of the vehicle, and the position of the patient in the vehicle ALS care was started in the vehicle to minimize the amount of pain the driver was in. IV access was established and pain medication was given simultaneously as crews cut the vehicle apart. Once the roof was removed and the dash rolled the victim was removed to a waiting ambulance for transport to the LZ. MSP Trooper 7 handled the medevac to PG Trauma. At the time of this story our member is recovering at PG hospital surrounded by friends and family.
