CALS Medic Assist at Worlds Largest Regatta in Boston
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Chief of CALS Chris Shannon FTO
December 5, 2018

CALS medics come from all over the Mid-Atlantic Region so it should be no surprise that one of our medics was asked to assist with an EMS standy for the Worlds largest Regatta (The Head of the Charles) in Boston Massachusetts. Our PMIC Pete Davekos worked with the Cambridge Fire Department and other local EMS agencies in providing EMS coverage for the 3 day event. The event attracts 400,000 spectators over the 3 day event and is staffed with 100 EMS volunteer personnel supported by the Cambridge Fire Department and Boston EMS. During the 3 day event our Paramedic was assigned to Bike patrol predominantly and a few rapid response duties along the river course in our chase vehicle. The volunteer EMS teams provided all EMS 1st response and treatment while Cambridge and Boston EMS provide the transport aspect of the patients encounter. EMS crews provide coverage along the 8 miles of riverbank and the roadways immediately next to the course. Our vehicle drew a lot of attention and compliments from participants and bystanders as well as offered us the opportunity to continue to recruit ALS providers from all over the East Coast.
