On Thursday March 15 at approx 2100 hrs Medic 101 (PMIC Rosenwald) responded to the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant with an ambulance from St-Leonard for the report of one with chest pain in the secured area. A77 arrived on scene first and was checked and cleared for entrance into the secured area. The medic unit arrived approx 3 mins later and staged outside the secure area per our policy. Quick thinking on the part of security officers, they decided to escort the medic into the secure area after a thorough screening. The medic found the patient in the rear of A77 with chest pain and poor appearance. A 12 lead was quickly performed and a STEMI was found, the 12 lead was transmitted to Southern Maryland Hospital to activate the Cath Lab and MSP aviation was requested. As the crew was requesting MSP the patient seized and went into cardiac arrest, security and the one BLS provider in the rear immediately started CPR while the medic charged the lifepak. The patient was defibrilated and within two minutes had a strong pulse again. The crews and security quickly moved the patient out of the secured area and up to the LZ for MSP aviation. The patient coded again in the ambulance waiting for MSP but was quickly revived again. The patient was flown to Southern Maryland Hospital for cardiac cath. The patient coded two more times in flight and had to be defibrilated but was alive and breathing on his own upon landing. This story highlights the incredible team work between ALS and BLS crews and Security officer from CCNPP. Three people worked their butts off to save the life of this patient. Congratulations to all the people involved in saving this persons life.
